What happens during my first appointment?
If you haven’t been to my clinic before, then look forward to being welcomed into my lovely Victorian home where I have converted one of the spare upstairs rooms into a warm, cosy, and private clinic space.
Here, we’ll chat confidentially about your main health concern, and I will also ask you other questions about your lifestyle, diet, health history, and more, in order to help me to paint a bigger picture of what may be going on; symptoms that may seem arbitrary to you, may help me to join the dots in order to make a more effective, wholesome diagnosis and treatment plan. I will also check your tongue and pulse, as in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) these are used as further diagnostic tools. Think of it as a health ‘MOT’; it’s necessary even for ‘simple’ things like muscle pain or strains.
We’ll then discuss a treatment plan, and I will guide you through the treatment. Very fine sterilised, single-use acupuncture needles are inserted and are usually retained for around 20 minutes. Use this time to just relax and let the needles do all the work. Patients often fall asleep! I may also perform other modalities such as cupping, electro-acupuncture, moxa, gua-sha, or offer naturopathic advice where necessary.
Ensuring that you eat and are adequately hydrated beforehand is recommended. It is advisable not to do anything too strenuous immediately after treatment; some people feel a little tired, but usually, they’re extremely relaxed and content. So why not prolong the feeling for longer by taking it easy!

What happens during my follow-up appointments?
If you would like to come back again so that we can continue to work on your treatment plan, then we will discuss your main health concern again and to see if there was any change after your first treatment. Our bodies are not simple. Healing is complex and it can take time for the body to realign itself. It’s my job to help guide you in this process. None of us are the same and each person’s journey to higher health is unique; indeed, everyone and every body is different.
Please allow approximately one hour for your follow-up appointment.
I have a 24 hour cancellation policy after which you will be fully liable for the full amount if no notice is given. I completely understand that cancellations cannot be avoided, and that life can throw up unexpected events. Just let me know if you can’t make it. I run a very small business offering treatments only on a Saturday, so it is important that I maximise my time in order to accommodate my other patients.
