FAQs

  • I have a 24 hour cancellation policy after which you will be fully liable for the full amount if no notice is given. I completely understand that cancellations cannot be avoided, and that life can throw up unexpected events. Just let me know if you can’t make it. I run a very small business offering treatments only on a Saturday, so it is important that I maximise my time in order to accommodate my other patients.

  • This depends entirely on the individual and your presenting symptom. Everyone responds differently and healing times vary. As a general rule of thumb, acute conditions take less time to resolve than chronic ones. I usually recommend a plan of six treatments, but that is of course up to you. Six treatments gives us both time to assess your progress and for me to tweak the treatments to your needs along the way. In my experience, patients that have just one or two treatments, often have their symptoms return fairly quickly and/or their symptoms take longer to alleviate. Alternatively, I have seen many patients who continue to come for treatment as a preventative and just because they feel so good afterwards!

  • Acupuncture needles are incredibly fine and should not hurt. You may feel sensations such as warmth, pulsing, tingling, dullness, or an achy feeling around the acupuncture points. This is completely normal and shows that the area is being correctly activated.

  • Probably the most common question, and the most difficult to answer! Acupuncture originates from China dating back over 2,000 years. Health is dependent on the body’s vital life force, known as Qi, to move in a smooth and balanced way through a series of channels inside the body. This can be disturbed by any number of reasons, including hereditary factors; emotional states such as anxiety, anger, or grief, and trauma; and physical causes such as poor diet, intoxicants, insufficient sleep, overwork, environment and infections. When Qi is unbalanced, stagnant or deficient, illness often results.
Acupuncture works to maintain the body’s equilibrium by focusing on all aspects of wellbeing; both physically and mentally. The aim is to stimulate the body’s own healing to restore its natural balance through the insertion of very fine acupuncture needles at chosen ‘energy’ (Qi) points along the channels. Acupuncture works by aiming the treatment at the root of your condition, as well as at your symptoms. To find out more about acupuncture in general, please visit ATCM

  • It is advisable to have eaten a light meal and to be adequately hydrated prior to your treatment. Acupuncture points are present all over the body, and it may help to wear loose clothing as many of them reside on the hands, feet, and lower limbs. I have soft towels to cover you, so wear whatever you feel most comfortable in!
